Position: Underwriting Technician

JOB TITLE : Underwriting Technician
REPORTING TO : Underwriting Supervisor
DIRECT REPORTS : N/A
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 3 Years in general insurance underwriting or reinsurance operations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance and risk management, Mathematics, or Actuarial Science. And/ or Diploma in Insurance (CII) or progress towards ACII
OVERALL PURPOSE
Booking Premiums, providing quotations, renewal reviews, processing policies & endorsements, conducting surveys and dealing with compliance issues within turnaround times
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC TASKS
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Policy Administration
- Booking premiums
- Preparing and issuing invoices within defined timeframes
- Issuing policy documents within 14 days
- Preparing quotations and endorsements within 72 hours
- Preparing renewal review quotations at least 60 days before renewal date
- Issuing insurance certificates/cover notes when required
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Regulatory compliance management (KYC, Premium Directive, Credit Reference, etc.)
- Following up on declaration premiums (PD cheques, etc.)
- Obtaining and analyzing customer credit data
- Conducting pre-loss risk surveys
- Ensuring underwriting details are provided promptly (fast-track claims within 48 hours)
- Reinsurance & Technical Support
- Arranging facultative reinsurance placement
- Preparing signing slips and follow-ups
- Managing corporate business accounts
- Referring issues beyond competency to senior staff
- Customer & Broker Engagement
- Attending to agents and clients purchasing insurance
- Responding to internal and external customer queries
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients and broke
- Reporting & Documentation
- Preparing weekly/monthly reports
- Maintaining accurate underwriting records
- Safeguarding company property
- General Duties
- Performing any other duties assigned by supervisors
- Supporting business continuity through teamwork and collaboration
